Route and Safety

The event route will be shared with all participants during the event week as a gpx track, which is recommended to be saved to your own device (watch, phone, GPS, etc.). The 100-mile and 50-mile routes are quite different from each other and will be shared as separate tracks.

The route IS NOT marked in the terrain, so staying on the route is the responsibility of each participant.

If you get lost or feel off track, please feel free to call us at 044 990 2926 for advice on the right direction.

Also, for any technical issues related to the bike (or rider), call us, and help will come! The support vehicle on the race route has a bike rack, so both people and bikes can be picked up from the route if the journey cannot continue.

Note: In life-threatening situations, always first call 112. We recommend downloading the 112 app to your phone, which allows your location to be sent directly to emergency centre. Distances in Lapland are long, and the arriving of assistance may take time, so everyone has a duty to help each other if the situation requires it!

The routes pass through the valuable nature of Pyhä-Luosto National Park and its surrounding areas. Throwing litter, bottles, empty gel pouches, wrappers, or anything else into nature is strictly prohibited. Dropped trash can always be picked up during the event, so be mindful! There are garbage bins at the aid stations for disposing of pockets and wrappers.

Water crossings

Both routes (100 and 50 miles) include water crossings. The crossings are at different locations, and special instructions can be found here.

Please read the instructions carefully and follow the provided guidelines for the crossings!

Mandatory Equipment and Insurance

The event will take place in Lapland in September, which means the weather can be anything.

The event routes do not go through open fells (as there are hardly any gravel roads in Pelkosenniemi that would traverse open fells), but the wind can be brisk at times, days can be quite cold in September, and there may be thick fog in the mornings. So be prepared for any weather before you leave home for Pyhätunturi.

For safety reasons, there are mandatory items as well as recommended items from the organizer.

Mandatory Equipment:

  • A bike that you feel capable of riding on the route within the given time (the finish closes at 7 PM)
  • Helmet
  • Race number attached to the bike’s handlebars
  • A working, charged, and weather-protected phone
  • Water bottle or other equipment for carrying liquid (minimum 500 ml)
  • Energy supplies to last from one support station to another

Recommended Equipment by the Organizer:

  • A device that can track the provided gpx-trace
  • 112-app installed on your phone
  • Energy to keep your spirits high even in difficult moments
  • A rear light for the bike
  • Windproof jacket

Participants are not insured by the organizer! Everyone participates in the event at their own risk and is responsible for insuring themselves and their equipment.
